Library at the
Institute for Historical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
-
The library at the Institute of History at BAS was
established in 1948 as a constituent part of the
Academy’s library network which was begun in 1947.
-
The supply of library materials was executed in
accordance with the specialization of the Institute of
History and depending on the resources of the Central
Library at BAS for building up a modern scientific
library system. Currently, the library is being supplied
in two major directions – History of the Bulgarian Lands
and Bulgaria and New and Contemporary General History of
Europe.
By 2005 the book stock of the library
amounted to 54 600 volumes. There are 120 titles of
current periodicals. The first collection Vazrazhdane
[Revival] comprised the book stock of the former
Botev–Levsky Institute, which became property of the
Institute in December 1977. There are 2200 titles in
this stock, or 4000 volumes. The number of the titles of
periodicals is 155, or 309 volumes.
-
The second collection is the personal library of Member
of Correspondence Colonel Petar Darvingov and comprises
1300 volumes.
-
A separate library was set up at the Institute of
History and currently owns 220 volumes which were bought
by the Institute, as well as 600 volumes donated by
their authors with their autographs or with the
autographs of donors.
-
The library has
compiled its catalogues – alphabetical and systematic

card-indexes of Vazrazhdane stock, of P.
